A Business Name is a legal vehicle that may be owned by an individual, partnership, or corporation. All Business Name registrations must be done via OBRS. The services available under Business Names include:
- Business Name Registration
- Re-registration. Business Names registered before November 28th, 2022 – OBRS go live date must re-register
- Amendments (changes to address, ownership, or name)
- Annual status filing. Effective November 28, 2022, all Business Names must file an annual renewal via OBRS to remain active. This annual renewal is due annually by June 30.
- Information Services. Ordering Good Standing certificate, short extract, or custom extract.
- Dissolution of a Business Name
Requirements to Register a Business Name include:
- Availability of Business Name. You may conduct a search for existing names here. You can also reserve a name in OBRS for free for up to 10 days. There are restricted words for Business Names. View a listing of restricted words.
- Social Security ID of owners
- Principal Address of owners
- Email address
- Contact number
- Nature of Business
- Self-Register in OBRS
Note: Only one of the Business Name owners can self-register and register the Business Name in OBRS. If a Business Name is owned by a partnership, a letter signed by all partners must be provided appointing the partner that will manage the Business Name in OBRS.
